Lila Jane Wide Awake Tonight
Lila Jane is off her nasal cannula! Matty is going to spend the night
at the hospital and be able to feed all night tonight. One step closer
to making it home. Lila Jane will probably come home on Tuesday.

Lila is Doing Better
Lila is definitely doing better. She was allowed to breast feed three
times today and did very well. It obviously made Matty very happy. Her
echocardiogram from Friday was completely normal. Her nasal cannula has
been weaned to 3 lpm and 21%. That means that she is not needing any
more oxygen than we are breathing. She will need to complete a total
of 7 days of antibiotics. That means the earliest she could be
discharged is Tuesday. Last, she got her umbilical arterial line
removed today.

Rear ended
Got rear ended on the way to the hospital to deliver milk. Other than
a late milk delivery, Amelia and I are ok and the other car suffered
most of the damage. More on Lila in the next post including a new video.

Lila Jane
You can see more pictures of Lila and probably some of Matty that she wouldn't want you to see at http://flickr.com/photos/biga73/
Lila will probably need to be in the NICU until next week to complete antibiotics. She is still on her oxygen and actually needed to go up a little last night. She will have an echocardiogram today to evaluate her PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn). She is tolerating her small feeds of 1/3 of an ounce. More later.

Lila Jane is doing better this evening and her TTN is resolving. She is down to 4 lpm and 30% oxygen on her nasal cannula. Her respiratory rate is improved and is normal more often than not. She also started taking some breast milk down her orogastric tube. Matty is recovering well and is more and more mobile. She is walking down to the NICU in a minute to hold Lila Jane again tonight. Thanks for everyone's concern!

Lila Jane and her purple pacifier
When Amelia visited yesterday, she was very concerned that Lila Jane
did not have a pacifier. She asked the nurse to get one for her.
When the pacifier ended up being purple, she was very impressed.

Lila Jane is now on 60% oxygen at 5 lpm. She still needs that much
support based on her blood work.
Mom and Dad Get to Hold Lila Jane!
Matty are just back from the NICU. We were even able to hold her briefly. Both of us were suspicious that the weight was not correct so they reweighed her and we are now saying her birth weight is closer to 7 lbs. 7 oz. or 3377 grams. She is still breathing fast but all her blood work looks great. She is down to about 60% oxygen. I imagine Lila Jane will be in the hospital for a few days....likely beyond Matty's discharge. Matty is working on being more mobile today. The trek down to the NICU tired her out and she is sleeping at the moment.

Lila in ICN at UAMS
So, Lila Jane was 8 lbs. 1 oz., 20 inches. Screaming and crying when she came out. Now, she is in the NICU at UAMS. She had to go to the NICU because she was grunting, retracting, and needed some extra oxygen. She has IV lines in her belly button. One in an artery and one in her vein. It allows for close monitoring of her blood pressure and for them to draw labs without a needle stick. Her blood gases (which help assess her breathing status) have looked better and her oxygen levels are up. Matty is about to go see her for the first time in the NICU and can't wait. It looks like she just has extra fluid in her lungs which will slowly resolve. Unfortunately, this can be a problem after C-section without labor. More to come.

Partying at ZAZA's
ZAZA's is a new restaurant opening in the old Height's Theater this Friday (hopefully). We had our end of the year soccer party there. They have pizza, gelato, and awesome salads. It was great!
